From the epic struggle for freedom against the military regime of Myanmar, this cinematic jewel emerges directed by the young Karenni director, John Meia. Through his powerful and moving images, "Lose and Hope" offers a heartbreaking look at the unforgiving reality not only of the small Karenni state but all of contemporary Myanmar.

"I want the world to know the truth behind the military coup and their cruelty. I want to show the world what we are experiencing here," says director John Meia. His voice represents the courageous voice of a small region that is strongly resisting military oppression, after the coup d'état that took place in February 2021.

The real strength of "Tears of Hope" lies in its cast – the young actors of "Lose and Hope" all belong to the Karenni ethnic group who continue to resist military rule. The film was shot near the front lines of the conflict, produced despite the difficulties of being in a conflict zone with the risk of constant bombings. The actors also needed to portray military soldiers, who speak Burmese, a language different from their own.

This film does not just tell the story of war and cruelty, but also celebrates the rich culture, traditions and unity of the Karenni people, as well as their determination and hope for a better future.

A cinematic work that not only informs and moves, but also inspires the struggle for freedom and resistance against oppression. "Lose and Hope" is a ray of light in the darkness, a voice that rises firmly against oppression, a call for universal freedom that cannot be ignored.

Screening of the film will be preceded by a short talk and show.

Please note that Lose and Hope depicts realistic scenes of conflict and is not suitable for younger viewers.
