Meeting Badass Believers

Wednesday March 1st 7.00pm (Doors 6.30)

An evening of music and discussion.

The idea of a ‘badass believer’ comes from the book ‘Decolonising Christianity: Becoming Badass Believers’, by Miguel de la Torres.

This idea may sound strange to ecclesiastical ears, but raises important questions for believers today. How do we define sainthood in light of 21st century issues? How does Paul’s identification of us as ‘saints’, or Christ’s understanding of discipleship carry over into the now? How do these ancient ideas remain relevant?

For this event, we will be interviewing and learning from three people who live out the faith. Three badass believers.

- Bethan Lant, who is active on refugee and migrant issues, a church warden and Green Party candidate.

- Vanessa Elston, a pioneer priest in Southwark Diocese, C of E, active in Climate, Spirituality and Action, including prayer and protest on the streets with Christian Climate Action.

- Augustine Tanner Ihm, Anglican vicar who went through conversion therapy, outspoken on LGBTQ+ rights and racism in the church.

The evening will include a ‘gong meditation’ led by Cathy Eastburn.
