Our Advent Prayer
Advent this year takes place during fears for our health and wellbeing. It is also a time of crisis in the world and anxiety for our planet. Here, then, is our Advent Prayer.
In our isolation, loneliness, and separation;
Come Lord Jesus come.
In the hunger of children, the distress of parents;
Come Lord Jesus come.
In the vulnerability of childhood and the memories of age;
Come Lord Jesus come.
To the ears, hands, and hearts of the listeners, the carers, the healers;
Come Lord Jesus come.
In the depression of the repressed and the resistance of the oppressed;
Come Lord Jesus come.
In the humiliation of the discriminated and the degradation of the wronged;
Come Lord Jesus come.
In the refuge from bullets and the fear of the bombs;
Come Lord Jesus come.
In the flood, the fire, the storm and shaking of the earth;
Come Lord Jesus come.
In the closing breath of the dying and the joyful cry of the new-born;
Come Lord Jesus come.
In the quiet of now, the beating of our hearts, the stillness of breathing;
Come Lord Jesus come.
