Eritrea and Tigray

The situation in the Tigray province of Ethiopia is very serious.  There are reports of widespread human rights abuses, gender-based violence and starvation as a weapon of war.  Union Chapel Church continues to pray for the situation and to support in whatever way we can.

Tigray Timeline here...

Lord Alton made a number of helpful suggestions for lobbying. An Early Day motion will be tabled on 10th May so please encourage your MP to sign.

Please write to: Vicky Ford MP - Africa Minister ([email protected]), Liz Truss MP - Foreign Secretary ([email protected]), Asking them to raise the profile of Tigray and visit the region.

Also write to: Lord Ahmed of Wimbledon ([email protected]), United Nations Minister who also has responsibility for Human Rights and Sexual violence asking to raise this at the United Nations Human Rights Council

Also write to: Your local MP Chair of International Development Select Committee - Sarah Champion MP ([email protected]), Chair of Foreign Affairs Select Committee - Tom Tugendhadt MP ([email protected]), Chair of the International Relations Select Committee - Baroness Aynsley ([email protected]).

I hope we can all play some small part in ensuring that the dreadful situation is brought to international attention as a matter of extreme urgency.
