We are honoured to welcome two krautrock legends under the same roof this autumn at Union Chapel.
Guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Michael Rother is a key figure of the innovative music scene originating from Germany in the early 1970s. Starting as a member of Kraftwerk in 1971, he went on to form cult bands NEU! (with Klaus Dinger) and Harmonia (with Hans-Joachim Roedelius and Dieter Moebius of Cluster) in the same decade before releasing nine solo albums.
Michael will perform a selection of handpicked tracks from across his NEU!, Harmonia and solo catalogues in the first half of the show, before krautrock icon Damo Suzuki takes to the stage for a live improv session with renowned London jazz collective Ill Considered after the interval.
Probably best known for his work as the lead singer for German group Can, Suzuki has gone on to perform solo and with fellow musicians whom he refers to as ‘sound carriers’. The shows are a demonstration of improvisation in its purest form, with Suzuki choosing to not rehearse at all beforehand and instead feed off the other sound carriers’ energy on stage.
