A documentary feature film by James Dawson about the crisis facing Britain’s pipe organs. One step ahead of the bulldozers, a small band of enthusiasts is fighting to save precious instruments that were until recently the glory of their communities. Presented by restorer of historic organs Martin Renshaw.
This screening is part of Union Chapel's Open Day. Feel free to come on a self-guided tour of the chapel from 10am - 2.30pm, complete with heritage film screening throughout the day for you to enjoy.
Plus join us for a lunchtime organ recital at 12:15pm - 1pm by students from St Mary Magdalene School with their tutor Jeremiah Stephenson.
The organ at Union Chapel was designed & built specially for the size and acoustics of the new Chapel building in 1877 by master organ builder Henry 'Father' Willis. It is one of very few organs left in the UK with a fully working water hydraulics and is undoubtedly one of the finest organs in the world. Since its full restoration in 2012 Union Chapel has been committed to introducing different age groups & different skill levels to the instrument as they endeavour to create a smooth & supported path from childhood to professional organ performance and composition of all genres.
